Hi there! Greetings from The Free Circle.🤍
How are you? How has your week been? Mentally free and thriving, we hope.

Today, we’ll be writing on the importance of “Communication”.
There’s a simple phrase known as “Communication is Key” and so we’re here to let you know the reason for this phrase.

Well, dear reader…
Communication helps people know what you want or don’t want, what you would rather have or not have, how you feel…all of that.
Some people think that not speaking up is them “being peaceful”.
Well, yeah, it’s true, sometimes you should embrace silence but then when it comes to your mental health, we shouldn’t always embrace silence here.
It is important that you instead embrace the art of “speaking how you feel”. You shouldn’t let things “just slide” if you know you’re going to spend the next hour bothering your poor thoughts about it.

As long as you don’t say it in a hurtful manner (which may not be so possible at times…) and as long as you’re speaking your truth.
Also, most of us have the bad habit of not speaking when someone hurts us. Perhaps not in a direct manner, perhaps in a direct manner even. We cover it up with “it’s okay” or “it’s fine” when it definitely isn’t okay or fine.
If you don’t like something, say you don’t like it. If someone makes a joke you don’t like, try to let the person know that it wasn’t okay with you. If you’re not in a good mood, say so.
Don’t get all sulky and expect the person to already know. Some people don’t know when they’ve offended a person especially if to such a person, it was simply “a harmless joke”.
Let such a person know that you do not appreciate such words or tone or actions, whatever it may be.
Stop assuming the person knows what’s wrong with you. Stop expecting people to know that your cat died or that your boyfriend/girlfriend broke up with you or that you’re not in “the mood” or that you’re having a bad day. Some people can’t read the room and that’s why we have words to speak and communicate to the next person.

Use your words like adults do.
Sometimes you may not feel like even speaking but then, try not to entirely shut people out especially those you know in your heart care alot about you. It may not be easy but then it isn’t impossible.
Also, if you do speak out and then the person refuses to acknowledge your feelings then you know better to distance yourself from such a person. Sorry but your feelings and emotions are valid whether or not, they agree and if they can’t see that then you should find new priorities… or rather new friends.
Let’s all normalize speaking up when something is bothering us, okay?
Of course, you may not even perfect this tomorrow but you know what?
Baby steps, dear reader. Baby steps and you’ll get there soon.
Want to know how you can effectively communicate. Here:
- First, figure out how and what you’re actually feeling.
- Speak clearly so the person understands how serious you are about the issue. Try not to stutter.
- Try to maintain an even tone. Even though it really hurt you and you’d want to burn the building down, try to be calm. That’s why I recommend not reacting immediately but perhaps at a later time where you can talk to the person alone and just calmly clear things up. Also maintaining an even tone helps you to speak clearly.
- And then, the really important one: Maintain eye contact. Maybe not like a hawk but then try to maintain “some” eye contact. It helps buttress your points.
Well, these are just some points anyway. Do what you’re gotta do. Just make sure you speak how you feel.
Today’s quote is from Nicholas Glyn Paul Gumbel, an English Anglican priest and it says: “A lot of problems in the world would be solved if we talked to each other instead of about each other.”
We hope you’ve learnt a thing or two, dear reader but if you haven’t, at least learn this: “Speak how you feel. Not everyone reads minds or facial expressions.”
Remember you cannot do anything right if you’re thinking right.
We love you. God loves you.
Wishing you the best of everything.
Keep thriving! Stop stressing!
